*Project Progress*
I finalized the agenda and did a little flyer for the 6th Japan-Korea Dialogue. I am preparing for the dialogue and still need to make sure that the Japanese students will come. I will contact Dawn and the other Korean students.

I went to a conference on Taiwan politics. It was a very good conference; there were several panels. It dealt with democracy, identity and security in Taiwan. Taiwanese identity and the divide of public opinion are fervently discussed. I met a Korean intern during the luncheon; her major is North Korea Studies and she is interning in IPS. Maybe I can ask her to come to IMTD. I am working on the memo about this conference. I will be able to share with IMTD later.

*News around Northeast Asia*
Chiefs from two Koreas met in Pyongyang
North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il, met the South Korean president, Roh Moo-hyun, in Pyongyang today for a summit meeting. President Roh travels to North Korea with quite a bold initiative: if North Korea agrees to arms cuts and a de-escalation of half a century of animosity, South Korea will help rebuild the North’s moribund economy, creating a “joint economic community.” This might be the prelude to eventual reunification. However, this summit has a mixed review. President Roh is taking a great risk offering a large sum of unilateral South Korean aid without knowing whether this is just another Kim Jong-il’s tactical move.
