油膩膩趴趴走記事本

Having a global vision is one of my niches. Studying in Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, I am taking a concentration on the international law and organizations. Last semester, I took a class, reinventing the United Nations, with Professor George Moose. In this class, I learned a lot about the Millennium Development Goals and the United Nations reform. I also joined the global issues seminar series provided by World Bank. The seminars consist of weekly meeting from October through March. These experiences deepened my interests in human rights law and lobbying. One of my favorite courses is political analysis. Ambassador Shinn taught us how to analyze the situation in Sudan, from which I learned more about Africa and the complexity there.

Over the next month, I’ll be holding a contest to find a university student or two to accompany me on a reporting trip to the developing world. I’m not sure where yet, and that will depend partly on what’s in the news at the time. But to give you a sense of the kind of travel I’m thinking of, the possibilities include a jaunt through rural Burundi and Rwanda in central Africa, or an odyssey from the coast of Cameroon inland to the heart of the Central African Republic.

星期三回到宿舍已經是八點多，我通常就把晚餐用微波爐熱一熱就上樓看電影，今天廚房準備的是漢堡、薯條還有蔬菜，一連三個禮拜我們都在看奇士勞斯基（Krzysztof Kieslowski ）的顏色三部曲，先是藍色，然後白色，今天是看他的最後一部曲紅色情深。我走路回家的時候很開心，因為想到要看這部電影，這部電影是我在三部曲裡面最喜歡的，高中的時候就很喜歡這部電影的氣氛。奇士勞斯基說過，他是希望觀眾照著順序看這三部電影的，同時這三個顏色也就是自由、平等和博愛。

藍色情挑（Bleu）是茱麗葉畢諾許主演的，重點放在車禍中失去丈夫跟女兒的女人，她極度地悲傷，所以想選擇逃離一切，離開原本的居所，想離群索居。死亡把她從前一段婚姻中解放，但是她一直要到最後才會了解到另一個男人給她的天空更大，也更愛她。

白色情迷（Blanc）是打著茱莉蝶兒的名號，但是主角不是她。我們注意的重點不是離婚勝訴又結交新歡的太太，而是沒有身分又沒有錢的理髮師。回到波蘭，他怎麼振作，為了賺很多錢，他去跟黑幫打交道、做土地買賣、開了一家公司。但是他很脆弱，睡醒的時候喊著前妻的名字，想聽她的聲音就打回巴黎，沒想到卻被掛電話。最後到底這種執念是愛還是復仇？令人深思。

紅色情深（Rouge），我很喜歡伊蓮雅各的那種純真清澈。尤其是這個故事裡面的重複性跟巧合安排地很好，伊蓮雅各跟年輕的法官住在同一區，但是不相識，他的女朋友跟女主角新認識的老法官也是鄰居，老法官不出門但是他會竊聽鄰居的電話。我覺得老法官好像冥冥之中知道女主角會跟年輕法官相遇，一開始他說：「他（年輕法官）還有沒有遇見生命中的那個人。」後來女朋友還真的遇見別人，年輕法官哭了。我覺得很感人的是，伊蓮雅各問老法官：「你還沒有說。說你愛的那個女人？」原來老法官年輕的時候也被背叛，他甚至跟著前女友跟她的新歡去了英吉利海峽，他說：「我覺得我被羞辱，一直到她死於意外，但是我再也沒有愛過。也許我當初沒有遇到的人，是妳。」是的，我們都需要一個純淨的靈魂來洗靜我們的不平，所以年輕法官算你好運，我們把伊蓮雅各送給你啦！

我上個禮拜不要命地看完了新買的法文小說《田園交響曲》（La Symphonie Pastorale），因為很精采，所以沒有辦法放下書做自己的作業，所以我花了幾個晚上趕快把他看完。

《田園交響曲》是紀德（Andre Gide）的著名小說，一九四七年紀德以這本小說拿到諾貝爾文學獎，紀德這本小說延續背德者跟守門的主題：對快樂的追求。這本書的體例是用第一人稱來寫的，牧師寫的日記一一描述他對一個盲女Gertrude的過度關懷，但是牧師是已婚的還有很多小孩，這其實是不道德的，所以他一直對自己說他只是關心小女生的教養，他還阻止自己的兒子向小女生求婚，說很多道理但是就是逃避自己內心真正的理由，他太太聽了說了一句：「可憐的你！」牧師不懂，但是當盲女Gertrude在樹林裡說了：「你是愛我的吧！」我們懂了，全世界都知道他愛Gertrude。

Recently I feel my life can also fit into the international politics theory. Such theories are after all empirical. It’s proper to say that the strong man has the legitimacy to exist. I think sometimes it’s even better for the public good.

Mass democracy=Mass stupidity

Mass democracy means that the mass/ people decide where the whole group is going. People aggregate their view and then they formed the final decision. However, if this mass is an organized one, the group would be easily misled. If a person said something, other people think that they also think the same thing. This is a sort of decision that would easily go wrong because the process of forming the consensus without the deliberation is dangerous. At the same time, it’s also perilous if the people have all sorts of opinions. The opinions can be so divided that the mass cannot go anywhere. Because everyone is equal in the system, everyone could just doubt one another’s opinion and propose an alternative. In this sense, the mass need to put up with the chaos before actually reaching somewhere.

克勞蒂亞最近突然有點危機意識，懂法文的人這麼多，克勞蒂亞是不是應該要更努力才能夠脫穎而出？想到自己在美國唸書，英文講久了，法文最近有點不順，唉優，有點著急～～希望Manu快點回來，陪我練法文啦！
